Irredeemable Bullshit With No Trade-Off

There are countless very important life lessons that I wish I was taught as a kid. So many adults in my life failed me miserably in their job to offer me sound wisdom and advice to best prepare me for the “real world”. One of these many lessons I wish I was taught about life is that most — if not all — bullshit that you get from people has no trade-off. Not even a little bit.

This can best be explained by an example. Take for example all of these “adult authority figures” charged with taking care of children — parents, teachers, etc — who frequently write off sadism amongst the children that they are supposed to teach right from wrong. They’ll say things like, “Oh, it’s just a phase, they’ll grow out of it” and completely write it off and abandon the victims who they are supposed to protect.

You’d think that if they are going to write off sadism, and not care about enforcing the rules when certain evil children break them on purpose with intent to harm others, then at the very least, the “trade-off” is that they wouldn’t self-righteously rain fire and fury over something relatively benign and harmless, and would show just as much forgiveness in those instances as well. You’d think that if they see kids goofing off and being silly, then they would just write that off too as being “Kids will be kids” and “Just a phase that they’ll grow out of”.

But no: in the vast majority of cases, the same “adults” (and I use the term lightly) will self-righteously come down on children like a ton of bricks…
